Transit benefits enrollment, minus the paperwork.

Hello Friends of Benefits,

This is our very first monthly update. As we depart the demonstration phase and seek broad adoption of our product by California transit operators, we want to keep our community up-to-date on its evolution.

We’ll announce new functionality, mention new adopters, and share current metrics of product usage each month. We also hope you’ll share these updates with your transit community so we can grow Cal-ITP Benefits together. We’re always happy to do demos and discuss the upside of adopting open-loop payments.

Cheers!

Product updates

  • We released a pathway to support benefits enrollment for SBMTD riders who currently hold a Reduced Fare Mobility ID. Riders no longer need to show their ID when boarding; they will automatically receive the reduced fare with they tap-to-pay.

  • We released an alpha of our Admin interface. Our engineering team will use this aspect of the product to create and manage agency configurations more efficiently.

  • We released an extensive refactor of our integration with the fare processor, Littlepay, to support their new Backoffice API. In addition to the benefits of using a modern integration with their platform, we will now be able to utilize new APIs such as those that allow for benefit expiration.
  • We shared video walkthoughs of our older adult, veteran, and agency card pathways on the Cal-ITP YouTube channel. See the app in action.

The numbers

120

Total rider enrollments

The cumulative count of successful benefit enrollments using the Cal-ITP Benefits app across all enrollment pathways and all California transit agencies since launching the service in late 2021. We aim to surpass 225 enrollments in 2024.

2630

Total reduced-fare open-loop fare transactions

The cumulative number of reduced-fare, open-loop transactions processed across all California transit agencies since launching the service. We aim to surpass 5,000 transactions in 2024.

↑ 8.6%

Percentage increase in reduced-fare transactions vs. previous month

Perhaps our most important metric, increasing month-to-month transactions represents concrete usage of open-loop payments by people who benefit from reduced fares.
